What is Chiropractic?

Chiropractic is a natural, well utilised and scientific health care discipline that focuses on optimising the function of your spine for greater overall health and wellbeing.

Chiropractic care follows the principle that your body is a self-healing, self-regulating organism…

What does Chiropractic care involve?

Chiropractors understand that one of the main causes of pain and disease is the misalignment and abnormal motion of the vertebrae in the spinal column, at Vida we call this a ‘subluxation’. Chiropractic works by removing these subluxations in the spine through chiropractic adjustments, which work to relieve irritation of nerves, restore joint mobility, and help return the body back to a state of normal function.

The Vida approach to health is holistic, meaning that we address your overall health rather than just simply relieving your pain. We recognise that many lifestyle factors, such as exercise, diet, rest and the environment impact your health. Our ultimate goal is to help restore your body to it’s natural state of optimal health, by removing those things which interfere with the body’s normal healing ability. In addition to manual adjustments, our chiropractors use a variety of treatment methods including soft tissue therpay, trigger point therapy, nutrition, exercise rehabilitation as well as counselling on lifestyle issues that impact your health.

What is a Chiropractic Adjustment?

A chiropractic adjustment is a quick thrust applied to a vertebra for the purpose of correcting its position, movement or both. These adjustments are performed by your chiropractor to identified subluxations in your spine, with the aim of restoring the function of your spine and removing any interference to the nerve. Chiropractic adjustments are often accompanied by an audible release of gas that sounds like a ‘crack.’ The sound may shock you the first couple of times that you get adjusted, but the sensation is usually relieving. Occasionally, you may experience minor discomfort, especially if the surrounding muscles spasm or if you tense up during the procedure. There are times when the audible ‘cracking’ does not occur. This is often due to either significant muscle tightness or if you are having a difficult time relaxing during your adjustment. It’s important to note that the success of chiropractic care does NOT only depend on this cracking sound to be effective.

Benefits of Chiropractic Care

Numerous studies have demonstrated that chiropractic care is an effective treatment option for back pain, neck pain, headaches, whiplash, sports injuries and many other types of musculoskeletal problems. It has even been shown to be effective in managing a wide range of health concerns in both the paediatric and aged populations. A recent study from New Zealand demonstarted the significant positive effect that regular chiropractic care has on reducing falls risk in the elderly.
